Last Parent Information Meeting for the 2018 8th Grade Trip to Washington D.C.:

  • Tuesday, January 30th @ 6pm, AJHS Room #1.

  • Sign up before January 31st to secure your spot and receive a $140 discounted price.

This meeting is for parent/guardians only (student should not be in attendance).  If a parent/guardian already attended a meeting in December they do not have to attend this meeting.   Information on cost, expectations and trip logistic, as well as how to sign up for the trip will be topics of the night.  Remember, you must have attended one of these meetings in order to sign your student up for next years trip.  Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and be in positive behavior standing in order to qualify for the trip.

NWEA/ Map Testing at AJHS 2017-18

 

In an effort to ensure that we are meeting the individual needs of our students, it is necessary to have an assessment that measures the academic growth of each student for each instructional year. To that end, the 2017-18 school year is the second year the NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Assessment) or MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment is being administered by our District.  We’re excited to be able to utilize this assessment is a nationally-normed assessment that is meant to measure academic growth (skills based growth) in the areas of Mathematics and Reading. These assessments will be administered a total of three times throughout the school year so that we can measure growth obtained in an instructional year with a mid-year data point. The resultant data is used to gauge the attainment of content skills, and will be utilized by our District, school sites, and school site instructors to inform instruction and address the strengths and areas for growth of our student population through the use of the NWEA learning continuum.

 

Additionally, the resultant data will be used (1 of 3-4 placement criteria) for placement in both *Mathematics and English and Language Arts.

Aptos High, Aptos Junior High, and our Aptos elementary schools are partnering for our annual LCAP input session on Tuesday November 28th, at 6:30 in the Aptos High Cafeteria.  Please join school administration, Superintendent Dr. Rodriguez, and other District officials to learn about where we are as a school and as a district and then gather your input on how to serve our students.  As a part of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) every school district in California is required to create a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).  The LCAP is our district’s plan to meet annual goals for students.  Your participation in this process is very important.

Hello 7th grade families,

We will be holding informational meetings about next year's 8th grade trip to Washington DC on December 7th and December 12th.  Parent/guardians only need to attend one of these meetings and these meeting are intended for parent/guardians only.  The meeting is mandatory  if you are thinking about sending your student on the trip in November of 2018.  Both meetings will be held at Aptos Junior High School in Room #1 at 6pm and last about an hour. Information on cost, expectations and logistic, as well as how to sign up for the trip will be topics of the night.

Halloween is coming and we’re all getting excited about wearing costumes to school.  Please remember that costumes need to be in accordance with school and district guidelines. Please keep in mind student costumes cannot disrupt the educational program of the school.  Any costume deemed inappropriate will be called to the attention of the student’s parents and the student will be asked to change into appropriate clothes. School dress code guidelines can be found in student's binder reminder on page 6.

We are eager to welcome you (Back) to Aptos Junior High School this coming Thursday, August 31st, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm! The Staff, Faculty and Administration are looking forward to having you here as active participants in your student’s education.

 

In preparation for the event, you and or your students will need to complete the Back to School Student Schedule which will be brought home from school, by your student, and/or can also be found on the homepage of our website at www.aptosjr.pvusd.net Please be sure to bring this schedule with you on Thursday, August 31st, when you attend the event. The evening will begin promptly at 6:00 pm in the Aptos Junior High School Gymnasium and end promptly at 8:00 pm. The student schedule will help you to navigate our campus as well as help to provide some insight as to what it feels like to be a student at AJHS. We will spend the evening focusing on access, rigor, support and participation…at all levels.

Dear Aptos Junior 8th grade parents--

 

The end of the school year is fast approaching and one of the exciting events ahead is the 8th Grade Dance on Friday, June 2nd from 6-8:30pm. This is a special evening for the students as they prepare to leave Aptos Junior and head off to high school and we want to make it memorable.

 

A committee is already hard at work to put this event together, and we welcome anyone who would like to participate!  We have several subcommittees including food, games/activities, and decorations, among others.  Please contact me or consider joining us at our next meeting on April 17th at 6pm in room 1 at AJHS if you'd like to get involved!  

 

The other thing we desperately need is money to pay for this event.  We are asking all 8th grade families to consider making a donation to help cover the cost of the party.  We are hoping to raise $2500 and are asking for your help.  Please consider making a cash donation, or you may sponsor a specific item (such as covering the cost of the DJ, donating food/drink items, decorations, etc).  You may donate money via PayPal on the AJHS website.
