Guardians- Even though your student is only in junior high, we all know that time moves quickly! It is never too early to start thinking about options for your student after high school. In fact, research shows that junior high students who are more exposed to college and career awareness actually do better academically. This site promotes excellence and equity in education through programs for k-12 and higher education institutions, and by providing students a path to college opportunities, including financial support and scholarships.
This fun, interactive website gives students ways to assess themselves to find good career matches. It also has an extensive database of information on different industry sectors and occupations. One fun element of the website is the “Choose Your Lifestyle” in the Make Money Choices page in which students can pick their ideal lifestyle and then they are told how large of a salary they would need to accommodate that lifestyle.
This county organization is committed to making sure Santa Cruz students are ready for college completion and their future careers. It features career assessments, information about career pathways, a college search tool, and information about financial aid. It is also a great place to learn about local events for students such as college and career expos.
This engaging website offers information for students on career pathways in the form of quizzes, videos and video games.
This site offers information on community, public, and independent colleges in California. Soon it will expand to feature colleges nationwide. It has a matching tool for students to try and find a school that is a perfect fit for them. It also allows them to compare different schools. This site also provides parents and students with valuable information on how to plan, prepare, and pay for college.
A website from the California State University system that offers information in an interactive, fun to read format. There is also a section for helping parents prepare.
This is a guide for paying for college. It includes a clearinghouse of scholarships. In addition, you can explore colleges and do career planning.
