MAP Testing
Hello Sea Dragon Community! In an effort to best support our students and guide our practice, all PVUSD students will participate in NWEA MAP testing. Students will demonstrate their learning in reading and math. Students will have as much time as they need to finish the assessments. Information about MAP testing for families can be found here in English and Spanish. Additional information can be found on the NWEA website

En un esfuerzo por apoyar mejor a nuestros estudiantes y guiar nuestra práctica, todos los estudiantes de PVUSD participarán en las pruebas NWEA MAP.  Los estudiantes demostrarán su aprendizaje en lectura y matemáticas. Math Placement/Assessments for current Math 1 students
Evidence:  To qualify for placement into Math 2 as a 9th grade student at Aptos High School, students must earn a C or higher in their current Math 1 class during 8th grade. All Math 1 students will still be required to take the following assessments...
  • District Math 1 End-of-Year Assessment
  • NWEA MAP Spring Assessment
  • CAASPP Mathematics Assessment 
 
Date: Administered in Math 1 Class - May 1st to June 2nd
 
* Students currently enrolled in Math 8 must meet 2 of the 3 following criteria to challenge the Math 1 End-of-Year Assessment
  • They must score a 90% or above on the Math 8 End-of-Year Assessment.
  • NWEA MAP Spring score is above the 90th normative percentile for grade 8
  • 8th grade CAASPP Mathematics score of Standard Exceeded

Math Placement for current Math 8 students
Evidence: All 8th grade students currently enrolled in Math 8 will be automatically enrolled in Math 1 during their 9th grade year at Aptos High School. All Math 8 students will still be required to take the following assessments
  • District grade 8 End-of-Year Assessment
  • NWEA MAP Spring Assessment
  • 8th Grade CAASPP
 
Placement into Math 1 for current 7th grade students at AJHS
Purpose: to challenge grade 8 students who demonstrate the ability to acquire mathematical understanding at an accelerated pace.
 
Evidence: Students achievement data must meet 2 out of the 3 data points listed here
  • Student scores Advanced on the district Grade 7 Accelerated End-of-Year Assessment
  • 7th grade CAASPP Mathematics Score of Standard Exceeded
  • NWEA MAP Spring Score is above the 90th normative percentile for grade 7
 
*At the end of the school year, a student in Math 7 May challenge placement by taking the Grade 7 Accelerated End-of the Year Assessment. A student can qualify to challenge by meeting 2 of the 3 data points listed here
  • Scoring Advanced on the district Grade 7 End-of-Year Assessment
  • 7th grade CAASPP Mathematics Score of Standard Exceeded
  • NWEA MAP Spring Score is above the 90th normative percentile for grade 7

 
Placement into Math Accelerated 7 Class for all current 6th grade students enrolled in PVUSD Feeder Schools
Evidence: Student achievement data must meet 2 of the 3 data points listed here
  • Student scores Advanced on the district Grade 6 End-of-Year Assessment
  • 5th grade CAASPP Mathematics score of Standard Exceeded
  • NWEA MAP Spring score is above the 90th normative percentile for grade 6

Accelerated Core Placement Assessment
To qualify to register for Accelerated Core ELA/SS as a 7th grader during the school year at AJHS.

The exam will take approximately 1.5 hrs
The results of this exam, along with other criteria, will be used to place students into the Accelerated 7th Grade Language Arts Core.

  • 6th grade teacher recommendation
  • Reading above grade level (STARR)
  • CAASPP data from 5th grade
  • NWEA MAP Spring Scores is above the 90th normative percentile
  • Writing Placement Test
